The current rate at which ritual related killings are being reported in our society is very alarming, surprisingly, some of the reported cases of ritual killings are being perpetrated by teenagers and young men whose age bracket falls between the age of 17 to 20 years. This alarming ratio calls for a serious concern with many members of the society questioning the moral and sanity being instilled into the upcoming generations.
Just weeks ago, a 20 year-old boy was apprehended for murdering his girlfriend for alleged ritual purpose, the lady was found dead with some of her vital organs removed, it was indeed a very sad story which raised many unanswered questions.
A new case of ritual killing that was perpetrated by teenagers has been reported in Ogun state, four teenage boys reportedly colluded in murdering a girl dating one of them for ritual purpose.
The girl, Rofiat by name was reported to have been lured by one of the boys, Soliu Majekodunmi who happens to be her boyfriend. After her arrival, the boys colluded in murdering her by cutting off her head which they later burned for ritual purpose.
According to reports, the boys ran out of luck when a security man guarding the area noticed the boys were burning something which appeared to be a human head, the security man reached out to the police and the boys were arrested by police operatives. One of the boys, Soliu reportedly escaped but was later apprehended by the police.
The boys identified as Wariz Oladeinde (aged 17), Abdulgafar Lukman (aged 19), Mustakeem Balogun (aged 20) and Soliu Majekodunmi (aged 18) later confessed to beheading and burning the head of the girl for ritual purpose, this has been generating a lot of uproar among many Nigerians who heard the news of the incident. This incident raises so many bothering questions, questions like, what led this boys to this point, what do they need money for, what made them opted for ritual killing, where did they get such courage and inspiration to murder a girl of their age, these are few of the numerous questions lingering in the heart of many people.
While some members of the society are trying to push all the blame on the boys and poverty, the fact remains that, we as a society also need to take a share of the blame, we need to retrace our steps, showing of support towards scammers, fraudsters and ritualists must be checked in our society. We need to make it clear to our youths that, these are unjust acts which can only ruin their future, they need to know that money made through this type of means will not last.
Secondly it is obvious that the boys didn’t act on their own, they sure have someone encouraging them and giving them instructions on how to carry-out the barbaric ritual, we as a society must come together to fish out agents and perpetrators of these evil acts. Poverty cannot be blamed for evil and unjust acts of wickedness because there are poor societies in the world where things like this are not happening.
Parents also have vital roles to play in the life of a child, bad parenting and lack of attention can affect a child’s life and his/her way of thinking, parents should try to instill good morals into their wards. Parents should also watch the kind of friends their children are keeping, the type of contents and environment their children are being exposed to, a word they say is enough for the wise, please let us endeavor to train our children right so that they won’t become a burden to the society.
What do you have to say about this?
